- Are they able to handle their lunchbox and water bottle on their own?
- Do they know how to ask a teacher for help when they need it?
- Can they use the toilet and wash their hands independently?
2. Social & Emotional Readiness
The P1 classroom is a dynamic social environment. Nurturing your child’s emotional intelligence will help them build friendships and navigate their new community.
- Can they take turns and share with others during play?
- Do they understand the basics of listening when others are speaking?
- Can they manage simple disagreements with peers without getting overly upset?
- Do they show empathy or an understanding of others’ feelings?
3. Academic Foundation
While teachers will cover the syllabus from scratch, a basic foundation helps prevent a child from feeling overwhelmed in the first few weeks.
- Can they recognize all the letters of the alphabet?
- Can they write their own name?
- Do they enjoy listening to stories and can they recall simple details?
- Can they count to 20 and understand basic concepts like “more” and “less”?
